"Fewer days, longer hours"

Check out what Jennie has to say about a 4-day work week in today's Boston Globe article titled "Fewer days, longer hours."

And if you don't feel like following the link, here's the gist.

Some New England employers are trading longer workdays for four-day workweeks. It's the latest way to go green - no need for air conditioning, lights, electronics, or machinery. This translates into less energy-related overhead and a reduced carbon footprint. Jennie is intrigued by the idea of a four-day workweek. But, she added, she didn't immediately think implementing one would be good for a business whose customers expect it to be open seven days.

(And PS: Just for fun, check out Yakima's "Let's Make Monday The New Sunday" campaign. I'm all for it.)

Story of Stuff

Just wanted to pass this along to all my CGB friends. Enjoy!

"From its extraction through sale, use and disposal, all the stuff in our lives affects communities at home and abroad, yet most of this is hidden from view. The Story of Stuff is a 20-minute, fast-paced, fact-filled look at the underside of our production and consumption patterns. The Story of Stuff exposes the connections between a huge number of environmental and social issues, and calls us together to create a more sustainable and just world. It'll teach you something, it'll make you laugh, and it just may change the way you look at all the stuff in your life forever."

new product: handmade, personalized jewelry

Gem & i originals are a new addition to the Crunchy Granola Baby family and we're quite glad to have them here!
But what are "they" exactly?
"They" are handcrafted works of jewelry - necklaces, bracelets, earrings, etc. Created by Keryn LaVarnway, Gem & i originals are jewelry pieces that reflect who you are as an individual.

Want a bracelet with your name on a charm? Or maybe a necklace with your son or daughters name on a charm? Perhaps even a necklace with all of your grandchildrens names on various charms, each with their birthstones attached? Perfect! Gem and i originals can make it specifically for you.

Each charm is hammered and stamped by hand, therefore lettering may not be straight or perfectly spaced and the edges will be free-form. These attributes add to the uniqueness of your piece which guarantees your piece to be one-of-a-kind.

So come visit us at CGB, check out our Gem & i originals jewelry and place an order for your very own Gem & i originals piece of artwork.

kris kimball artwork for sale

Crunchy Granola Baby's featured artist is Kris Kimball, a 24-year old documentary film student who recently completed his M.A. at Emerson College in Boston. A Danvers native, Kimball also holds a B.A. in communications and fine arts from Saint Joseph’s College of Maine.

His artistic influences range from nature and the outdoors to past adventures and places he hopes to go. He enjoys experimenting with all artistic mediums: painting, digital photography, film, animation, etc. His recent project was a documentary film, titled "Local," about surfing in New England.

Kimball is also an avid surfer, and a serious animal lover, so a portion of the proceeds from all painting sales at Crunchy Granola Baby will be donated to Surfrider Massachusetts and to the MSCPA.

But Kimball's artwork will only be displayed at CGB through the end of July, so hurry in to pick up some one-of-a-kind artwork while also making a contribution to local charities. Only four left!
For more information about Kris’ art or films, lease contact him at
