New Class: Parenting Support with Traditional Chinese Medicine
Traditional Chinese Medicine is a comprehensive system of healthcare with a continuous clinical history of more than 2500 years. It includes acupuncture, herbal medicine, bodywork, dietary therapy and exercise, all based on traditional Oriental Medicine principles. It is most effective when applied as a holistic style of medicine, using various modalities simultaneously to formulate a treatment plan that works from several angles to achieve optimal performance of, and harmony between, all organ systems.
CGB's classes are as follows:
- Preparing the Vessel: Thursday, October 7 at 7PM
- A Beautiful Pregnancy: Thursday, October 14 at 7PM
- Holistic Healthcare in the Home: Thursday, October 21 at 7PM
About our Instructor:
Annie Dallas, L.Ac., received her master’s degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine from the Colorado School of TCM (Denver) in 2007. She is National Board Certified in Oriental Medicine by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). She has done post-graduate studies at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center on the use of acupuncture for cancer patients and has a keen interest in helping to improve the quality of life during and post cancer treatment. In addition, she studied two styles of TCM-based facial rejuvenation, and enjoys helping women, young and old, understand their beauty as an outward rendering of internal health and harmony. Annie incorporates all applicable TCM modalities into her treatments, including herbal medicine, tui na (medical massage) and nutritional therapy.Oriental Medicine certification (earned by less than 20% of US acupuncturists) allows Annie to incorporate Chinese herbal medicine, tui na (therapeutic bodywork) and nutritional therapy into her acupuncture treatments. Annie is new to Massachusetts and practices at New Harmony Center for Health & Wellness in Beverly. She lives in Salem along with her husband, daughter and golden retriever (Mr. Kansas).

Why Talc Free?
What is talc? Talc is a mineral, produced by the mining of talc rocks and then processed by crushing, drying and milling. Because talc is resistant to moisture, the products that contain talc, and thus pose the most serious health risks are body powders, like baby powder.
Why is talc harmful? Talc is closely related to the potent carcinogen asbestos. Talc particles have been shown to cause tumors in the ovaries and lungs of cancer victims. For the last 30 years, scientists have closely scrutinized talc particles and found dangerous similarities to asbestos. Responding to this evidence in 1973, the FDA drafted a resolution that would limit the amount of asbestos-like fibers in cosmetic grade talc. However, no ruling has ever been made and today, cosmetic grade talc remains non-regulated.
What kind of exposure is dangerous? Talc is toxic. Talc particles cause tumors in human ovaries and lungs. Talc particles are able to move through the reproductive system and become imbedded in the lining of the ovary. Additionally, talc miners have shown abnormally high rates of lung cancer. The common household hazard posed by talc is inhalation of baby powder by infants. Since the early 1980s, records show that several thousand infants each year have died or become seriously ill following accidental inhalation of baby powder.
*Looking for talc-free baby powder? We've got it!
