Why Wool?

Wool has become a year-round mainstream nursery item. Why?

Medical studies at Cambridge University have shown that wool has a soothing, swaddling effect on babies, resulting in better sleep, reduced stress, greater contentment and improved weight gain.

In the summer babies stay cool and dry when they are on wool because of natural air circulation through the fibers. In addition, wool absorbs perspiration and moisture more than any other material.

Of course, wool also keeps babies warm in cool weather. Pure lambswool soothes and comforts baby with a soft, swaddling effect, reduces stress and restless movement, and promotes sleep.

Wool fibers also limit the growth of harmful bacteria and are naturally fire retardent. It's hard to get all of these properties in one fiber!

Did you know...
  • Wool is a natural fiber that can absorb up to 30% of its weight in water without feeling damp.
  • Wool maintains a constant temperature around the body allowing a more comfortable sleep.
  • Wool provides support at pressure points, reduces bedsores and aids their healing.
  • Wool improves sleep and relief from symptoms such as stiffness and pain.
  • Wool disinfects itself in fresh air without the use of harsh chemicals.
  • Unlike other companies, Snugglewool never requires that the Merino animal give its life. Instead of using sheepsking, they use a backed fleece on their Merino sheep in Australia and New Zealand.

What We're Reading: "Happy Baby - The Organic Guide to Baby's First 24 Months"

We've got a new addition to the Lending Library! "Happy Baby - The Organic Guide to Baby's First 24 Months."

This book combines decades of medical expertise from Dr. Robert W. Sears with the nutritional know-how of Amy Marlow, registered dietitian for the popular HappyBaby line of organic baby food. These two answer critically important questions, like:
  • What should I eat when nursing my baby to ensure the most nutritional feedings?
  • What simple tips can help me manage the inevitable stress that comes with a new baby in the house?
  • I'm worried about toxins in my baby's nursery. How can I green the new room?
  • When do I introduce my child to solid foods, and how can I do it in a safe and fun way?
  • How can I develop healthy eating habits in my children?

"Happy Baby - The Organic Guide to Baby's First 24 Months" offers a proactive, harmonious approach to parenting that's easier, greener, and just plain better for your precious infant or toddler.

So stop by CGB and borrow our copy of this fantastic new book!

Spring/Summer CSA 2010

Do you crave fresh produce?

Do you want to support a local, organic farm?

Join our 2010 CSA!

A CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) is a way for people to build a relationship with a farm. By making a financial commitment to a farm, the people become "shareholders" of the CSA and receive weekly baskets of produce. It's a perfect (and affordable) way to eat healthy and support a local farm.

For the third year in a row, Crunchy Granola Baby has again teamed up with Heaven's Harvest Farm in New Braintree to offer local North Shore residents the opportunity to become shareholders in a CSA.

Details:

  • A full share is $600. A half share is $400
  • Previous shareholders can save 10% if they register by February 15. The final deadline for all shareholders is March 19.
  • The season runs for 15 weeks, from June to October.
  • Produce is delivered weekly to Crunchy Granola Baby on Thursday afternoons. Shareholders then stop by CGB (between 3 and 6:30PM) to pick up their share.
  • CGB also operates a CSA blog that posts what shareholders can expect, recipe ideas, etc.

Want To Become A ShareHolder?

Register at Crunchy Granola Baby as soon as possible, no later than March 19. Checks should be made out to Heavens Harvest Farm and dropped off (or mailed) to Crunchy Granola Baby. Please include: Name, Address, Phone and Email.

The deadline for share registrations is March 19
