The highly-anticipated film Babies simultaneously follows four babies around the world – from birth to first steps. Capturing the journey of humanity that is both unique and universal to us all, the film follows Ponijao from Namibia, Bayarjargal from Mongolia, Mari from Yokyo, and Hattie from San Francisco.

Magical Postpartum Pads

CGB is happy to offer a new kit for making your own pain-relieving postpartum pads!

The natural ingredients in these soothing pads will help reduce swelling and ease discomfort after childbirth. You can use cloth or disposable pads. (CGB recommends NatraCare as a disposable choice.)

What You Need:
- Overnight maxi pads of your choice
-Witch Hazel
-Lavender Essential Oil (not perfume)
- Aloe Vera (the edible liquid, not the topical ointment)

Directions:
- On each pad, pour 1 tablespoon of witch hazel, a dime-sized dollop of aloe-vera liquid, and 3-4 drops of lavender oil.
- Lay each pad in a freezer-safe bowl and store in the freezer (this way they will be cooling and formed to your shape!)
- Use as needed

[From Mothering Magazine, March-April 2010]

We offer all the ingredients individually, or as a kit at a discount.

Do you use any homeopathic or herbal remedies during pregnancy or after birth?

CGB Introduces Bicycle Benefits!

CGB is kicking off a new program: Bicycle Benefits!

Bicycle Benefits is a progressive bicycling program designed to reward individuals and businesses for their commitment to cleaner air, personal health, and the use of pedaling energy in order to create a more sustainable community. The program's continual growth decreases parking demand, increases helmet use, and improves cyclists' safety and health by putting more people on bikes.

Purchase a $5 reflective Bicycle Benefits helmet sticker from CGB and you're immediately entitled to discounts and rewards at local businesses and restaurants around town when you show your Benefits sticker.

For example: Bike to CGB and show us your Bicycle Benefits helmet sticker and we'll give you 15% off one item!

So far, CGB and Salem Cycle are blazing the trail for other Salem shops to join this innovative program. So if you like the idea, encourage your favorite shops to join! Together we can make Salem a more dynamic bicycling city!

And your Bicycle Benefits sticker isn't just good in Salem, it works in any Bicycle Benefits community. Check 'em out here.

Kleen Kanteen Sport Cap Recall

Heads up: Kleen Kanteen has recalled its Sport Cap 2.0. Read the company's statement below:

"For safety reasons and in cooperation with US Consumer Product Safety Commission, Klean Kanteen is recalling the Sport Cap 2.0. Klean Kanteen® has received six consumer reports relating to the spout tip of Sport Cap 2.0 breaking or cracking after being dropped, which could pose a possible choking or ingestion hazard. There have been no incidents of actual choking or ingestion reported.

We at Klean Kanteen apologize both for the inconvenience and the resource footprint of this recall. We take the health and environmental aspects of our products very seriously and the mere possibility of our product harming someone gave everyone at Klean Kanteen pause. The decision to recall and replace caps was really the easy part, running a smooth replacement program is the challenge we now are rising to. We really appreciate your patience and understanding; we'll get you your new Sport Cap(s) as quickly as possible."

If you have a Sport Cap 2.0, please click here for information on their return procedure. Any questions, please feel free to contact CGB at 978.741.0800.

We had a great time with Barbara Warren of Salem Sound Coastwatch this weekend! She taught us, and helped troubleshoot, everything we'd ever need to know about composting.

Couldn't make it on Saturday? No worries, swing by next Saturday, May 8 at 2PM for our next Green Speaker Series Event with Andrea Cohen from the film “Get To Know Your H20.”

Cohen will discuss how daily water choices affect the world. While bottled water corporations are spending millions of dollars each year to convince U.S. citizens to choose bottled water over tap, Cohen encourages consumers to be curious and think critically about their daily water choices and how they impact the world around them. Cohen aims to teach the community of Salem about their watershed areas, and connect the viewer with the resources to find answers to other questions or concerns about their drinking water."

We’ll also be raffling off a rain barrel!
A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Ipswich River Watershed Association.
