Reusing and Recycling by Reselling at Crunchy Granola Baby

To kick off “Once Crunched,” CGB is hosting a “Once Crunched Launch Party.” On Saturday, June 6 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, we will be showing off our gently used baby and children's items, munching on yummy organic treats and learning about the wonderful organization "For Jake's Sake."

“For Jake’s Sake" is the current non-profit who will receive a portion of the proceeds from "Once Crunched." A local non-profit dedicated to offering financial assistance for autistic children in Massachusetts, "For Jake's Sake" was founded in 2008 by Dawn Cobak and works to help autistic children gain access to effective therapies they otherwise could not afford. To learn more about this wonderful organization, visit www.forjakessake.org.

If you can’t attend our party, but would like to schedule an appointment to donate gently used items (like organic clothing, wooden toys, cloth diapers, etc) or have questions, please contact Jennie or Amy at 978.741.0800 or crunchygranolababy@verizon.net.

More About Once Crunched:

CGB recently launched a new line called “Once Crunched,” which consists of gently used baby and children’s items.

Items closely resemble current CGB products (organic, fair trade, etc) and are both donated by and sold to eco-conscious customers.

The aim of “Once Crunched” is to give families another way to go green. By donating their items, families are supporting a local business, recycling their own products and giving other families the opportunity to buy eco-products secondhand. Additionally, CGB provides a shop discount voucher for donated items and a 5% donation of “Once Crunched” proceeds to local, non-profit organizations.

What We're Reading: "Baby Catcher: Chronicles of a Modern Midwife"

"In a joyous, often hilarious ode to the Birkenstock-scuffling, tackle box-toting mobile midwives who flourished in the 1980s, Peggy Vincent chronicles her abundant life as a professional Baby Catcher.

The wild ride begins during her nurse training years in the 1960s, when laboring women were expected to lie down, shut up, and submit to whatever drugs and procedures the doctor ordered. A rebellious patient who chants and dances through her contractions--and the hell that ensues when seasoned hospital staffers intrude--lights a permanent fire under Vincent. Her resolve to serve each laboring woman with compassion and respect carries her from obstetrics nurse to head of an alternative birth center within Alta Bates Hospital in Berkeley, California, and eventually into her own private practice as a licensed midwife.

Like the most courageous home births, this collection of delivery experiences refuses anesthesia: plenty of bellowing, sweating, bleeding, and pushing accompany nearly all of the more than 40 tales. Tough confrontations with stubborn physicians, panicky labor partners, and one particularly nasty calico cat are dabbed with as many keen insights as Vincent's quieter, more heart-rending newborn encounters.

Baby Catcher is an inspirational literary gift suitable for expectant mothers, fellow baby catchers, and anyone who loves reading about nature's greatest magical feat." - From Amazon.com

Celebrate World Fair Trade Day on Saturday, May 9 at Crunchy Granola Baby! Receive 20% off any product that is Fair Trade...which basically means 20% off every product in the shop!

Don't know the details about World Fair Trade Day?

World Fair Trade Day has grown into a global festival of Fair Trade with events organized worldwide, on and around the second Saturday of May by members of the World Fair Trade Organization across 70 countries. Events have included Fair Trade breakfasts, talks, markets, live performances, fashion shows, carnivals, processions and protests, to drive Fair Trade and campaign for justice in trade and promote sustainable social and environmental policy. Fair Trade products and produce from marginalized communities are showcased on the day.

It's vital that we correct the imbalance in trade that leaves millions of people living in poverty with the threat of climate change and a financial crisis hanging over us all.
