Do you crave fresh produce? Do you want to support a local, organic farm? Join a CSA!

A CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) is a way for people to build a relationship with a farm. By making a financial commitment to a farm, the people become “shareholders” of the CSA and receive weekly baskets of produce. It’s a perfect (and affordable) way to eat healthy and support a local farm.

And for the summer, Crunchy Granola Baby has teamed up with Heaven’s Harvest Farm in New Braintree to offer local North Shore residents the opportunity to become shareholders in a CSA.

About Heaven’s Harvest Farm:

Located in New Braintree, Heaven’s Harvest Farm is committed to organic farming and sustainable practices. The farm is certified organic and a member of the Northeast Organic Farming Association (NOFA). Currently in their thirteenth year of farming, Heaven’s Harvest grows over 50 kinds of veggies and small fruits. They also pride themselves on their relationship with their shareholders, sending out weekly emails packed with information about the share’s produce and unique recipes.

*Note: Heaven’s Harvest Farm uses organic chicken manure as fertilizer; produce is not grown veganically.

*Note: Produce grown at Heaven’s Harvest Farm include: arugula, beets, broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, celery, Chinese greens, collards, cucumbers, daikons, edamame soybeans, eggplant, green beans, green onions, hot peppers, kale, leeks, lettuce, mustard greens, onions, peas, potatoes, radishes, rutabagas, salad greens, salad mix, spinach, sweet corn, sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, swiss chard, tomatoes, turnips, melons, raspberries, strawberries, watermelons, fresh herbs, fresh flowers, summer squash, zucchini, blueberries and cantaloupes.

The Details:

• A full share is $575, which amounts to less than $40 per week. A half share is $350.
  The season runs for 15 weeks, from June to October.
• Each week, shareholders will receive a newsletter from Heaven’s Harvest Farm with information about their share produce and unique recipes.
• Produce will be delivered weekly to Crunchy Granola Baby, although the specific day is yet to be determined. Shareholders then stop by CGB to pick up up their share.

*Note: If any shareholder is unable to pick up their share by the specified date/time, Crunchy Granola Baby will donate it to a Salem charity.

Register at Crunchy Granola Baby as soon as possible, no later than April 26. Checks should be made out to Heavens Harvest Farm and dropped off (or mailed) to Crunchy Granola Baby.

CGB gallery artist: Kris Kimball

Even though we're already halfway through March and many of you have already seen his work, we figured it would be fun to blog about our amazing new gallery artist.

Kris Kimball is a 24-year old documentary film student studying for his M.A. at Emerson College in Boston. A Danvers native, Kimball also holds a B.A. in communications and fine arts from Saint Joseph’s College of Maine.

His artistic influences range from nature and the outdoors to past adventures and places he hopes to go. He enjoys experimenting with all artistic mediums: painting, digital photography, film, animation, etc.

Currently, Kimball is devoting most of his time to working on his Masters project – a documentary about surfing in New England.

And as an avid surfer, and a serious animal lover, Kris will donate a portion of the proceeds from all painting sales at Crunchy Granola Baby to Surfrider Massachusetts and to the MSCPA.

great american meatout

Not only is tomorrow the first day of spring (woohoo!). but tomorrow is the Great American Meatout. What is a Meatout, you ask? Well, let me tell you.

The Great American Meatout is the oldest and the largest grassroots diet campaign. It's an event geared towards helping everyone explore the idea of vegetarianism (or veganism) and see what we can each do in our daily lives to help "kick the meat habit," even if only for a day.

Here at Crunchy Granola Baby, we're going to be giving away pamphlets of information about the Meatout and about the benefits of going vegetarian or vegan. We're also going to be giving away adorable little recipe books filled with vegetarian/vegan recipes for yummy meals/snacks, like hummus and olive roll-up or chocolate chip bars.

So if you've been thinking about going vegetarian, then stop by and grab some information. And if you haven't been thinking about going vegetarian, then maybe now is the time.

Speaking of fun stuff...did I mention we have even more new products??

Organic bibs made by local mom Deena Kiloski are Designed for Drool (true fact and also the name of her company). They're soft, come in tons of bright colors and are made of 100% organic cotton (some bamboo) towels. And since they bibs are made from towels, they can be machine washed and tumbled dry while still maintaining their softness. Gotta love the ingenuity of moms!

We're also now carrying Natursutten pacifiers. While we don't necessarily advise the use of pacifiers, sometimes it's just necessary. And for those moments, you're gonna want an all-natural and one-piece pacifier - Natursutten.
