New Featured Artist: Laure Dennery

Laure's work will be on display and available for purchase at CGB October thru November.

Laure Dennery – Bio
I was born in New York City and moved to Paris, France when I was 12. As difficult as this change was, it was at this time that I started using art as a way to express what I could not with words. I found that the canvas afforded me a venue to express myself that was much easier than trying to navigate the different languages and cultures running through my head.
I often use animals as a source of imagery. For me, they embody the simplicity of life; a life devoid of the seemingly endless complexities of human society. Animals are always true to themselves and it is the beauty that comes from understanding their essence that I try to convey in my pieces. Through my work, I explore colors, forms and abstractions to create intimate scenes that reveal serene simplicity in a complex world.
I first started painting penguins after seeing the documentary “March of the Penguins.” As I began to experiment, I started falling in love with their simple shapes and colors and discovered the endless possibilities that these birds inspired in me. I took a break from painting them for a while, but then found that I always seemed to come back to them for they brought me comfort to paint (I mean, who can resist them, really?).
I now live in Cambridge, MA where I devote all of my time to my art. I hope that you enjoy my work!

New Product: Action Baby Carrier

Here at Crunchy Granola Baby, we're always looking for the best products for you. We like great quality and American made products, as well as eco-friendly, woman and family owned businesses. And guess what? We just found an amazing new product that captures all those qualities! Created by owners Scott and Angela [last name], the Action Baby Carrier is a lightweight soft structured baby carrier offering comfort and style at an affordable price. The Action Baby Carrier is designed to be a great infant baby carrier as well as a great toddler baby carrier and is used for front and back carries. We even had our babywearing "expert", Vickie Dawson, (who, not so secretly, dislikes carriers with buckles) borrow our sample Action Baby Carrier for a few days to test it out. Here's what she had to say "I like it, the back is higher than other structured carriers, so I wasn't at all worried about Cora, she was nice and close to me. It was extremely comfortable all around, usually I feel pressure on my hips and shoulders with the structured carriers I've tried in the past, this was very soft and secure. Cora likes it and is very comfortable riding in it."

Available in solids and super cool prints for all tastes, this carrier is made in the USA and priced right. Stop by Crunchy Granola Baby today to try our new Action Baby Carrier.

Parents' work leads to playground meeting

By Amanda McGregor

September 14, 2009 09:32 am

SALEM — When Jenn Santo and her family moved to the Salem Common neighborhood four years ago, something immediately caught her eye: the playground.

Of the 25-year-old wooden structures on the southeast corner of the nine-acre park, Santo said: "This is the central park for our city, and it's boring and unsafe."

She is among a group of Salem Common neighbors, mainly parents, who have been on a crusade the last three years to build a new playground. They researched and helped design a structure they hope will replace the current equipment — and they raised more than $35,000 to do so.

Tomorrow night, the city's Park and Recreation Commission will take up three designs for a new Salem Common playground, including the one supported by the parent group.

Read the rest of the (fairly lengthy!) article here.

*Congrats Parents United and everyone who has helped raise funds for this wonderful playground!

Special Request

We just received this news from the director of Fox Hill School about Tommie's class mate well actually more than class mate she is his lunch mate too (they are both gluten free so they get to eat together)

I am writing to request your assistance in helping one of our Fox Hill families. A returning student to our classroom upstairs. On July 1st, she and her family suffered a terrible loss. Their home, and all its contents, was lost to a fire. Luckily they were away at the time and were unharmed, but they have literally lost everything. We would like to organize a clothing drive. They are in need of fall and winter clothes. If you have any clothes, shoes, coats, etc (see sizes listed below) that you can donate to this family, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your assistance. It means a lot to us to know that our Fox Hill family can come together to help a family in their time of need.

2 girls:
Size 4-5T and 9 1/2-10 shoe.

Size 3T and 7 1/2 -8 shoe.

We are so lucky to have such a giving community. I know we will receive many donations.
You can drop the donations off at Crunchy Granola Baby.
And thank you all so much!

New Class: Sing Baby Sing

Sing Baby Sing is a special introduction to the wonderful world of music.

The baby class is an opportunity for parents to improve their own singing skills, which is done by learning new songs, dancing to new tunes, making music as a group, and learning about and playing instruments. These abilities and songs are then passed on to your children over time. Attending theses classes puts in place an organized structure for you and your child about music and singing and to share it. Your child will respond to being surrounded by people singing together.Through songs, fingerplays, soothing lullabies group instrument exploration, the babies are exposed to a wide variety of songs and musical pieces.

Sing Mommy Sing is for babies 0 - 6 months old. The price is $145 for an 8 week session, with one 30-minute class each week. To register contact Kellie directly at or call her 781-990-3165.
